The KMP Watershed Prioritization tool aims to identify and rank priority areas for meadow restoration and forest health work across the broader Klamath Meadows Partnership landscape.
This is a scaled-up adaptation of the Scott River Watershed Center's (SRWC) original watershed prioritization tool. Like its predecessor, the tool is built as an RShiny application that runs entirely in the browser via webR, meaning there's no server or file upload required — users can score and rank watersheds using their own data without any technical setup. The tool pulls together ecological, climate-resilience, fire, and management-related datasets (things like inventoried and "lost" meadow models, species of concern, wildfire history, land ownership, and NEPA compliance status), converts them into standardized scores using the Jenks natural breaks method, and lets users weight the metrics according to their priorities.
The KMP tool defaults to analyzing data at the HUC10 level, though it can run at other geographic scales as needed, and it groups its metrics into themed scenarios tied to specific management goals. Once weights are set, the tool runs a Monte Carlo sensitivity analysis — randomly adjusting metric weights 1,000 times and re-ranking watersheds — to test how robust the results are to the chosen weighting scheme, and then automatically compiles everything into a downloadable report summarizing the goals, settings, and prioritization results.
